César Alonso Iriarte

César Alonso-Iriarte is principal policy officer for the fight against cybercrime in DG Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission. His team develops policies to better fight cybercrime through EU legislation, funding and coordination of different actors. Mr Alonso Iriarte is a Spanish lawyer and has been active in policy-making within the Commission since 1997. Since 2008 he has been working in the fight against sexual exploitation of children, child pornography and cybercrime. In 2013, he was EU Fellow at George Mason University (Virginia) conducting research on public-private partnerships in the US and the EU to fight Internet crimes. He is also an expert in data protection and privacy, an area where for over eight years he dealt with the Council of Europe, relations with the USA, the enlargement of the EU, data protection in EU Institutions and was seconded to work at the Italian data protection authority.
