Towards better public procurement of cloud services in Europe

A Digital Single Market will enable better public procurement of cloud services in Europe by facilitating common definitions of requirements and increasing the potential for joint procurement across borders. Pooling common public requirements could bring higher efficiency, reduce costs and enable interoperability. Higher quality services, more competition, rapid standardisation and better market opportunities for SMEs can also benefit the private sector.

A4Cloud Accountability for Cloud and Other Future Internet Services

Presentation available here

Accountability is probably the most critical prerequisite for effective governance and control of corporate and private data processed by cloud-based IT services. This workshop showcases the outputs of the A4Cloud project which has built methods and tools which combine:risk analysis, policy definition and enforcement; monitoring; and compliance auditing.

Crossing the river by feeling the stones - Simon Wardley, Industry & technology mapper, CSC leading edge

In a world of change, how do you determine what’s the right thing to do? How do we understand where we’re going and where we need to go? How do we know our strategy is right? Is there such a thing? In this talk we will examine the issue of situational awareness and how it applies to cloud. Using examples from Government and the commercial world, we will look at how you can map your environment, identify opportunities to exploit and learn to play the game.

A Trusted Cloud - Strengthening Trust in online services.

To reap the full potential of cloud, Europe needs to continue investing in cloud research. A key priority is building trust and confidence in the cloud. What is the current status in the market. How do we expect it to evolve to meet European policy objectives and investments, especially in sectors where Europe has a key stake? How can we achieve greater transparency over data integrity by cloud service providers and the industry at large?

Chair: Elena Bonfiglioli, Industry director for Healthcare in EMEA, Microsoft

Seeing eye to eye?
Cloud service providers and users come together to talk about how cloud is driving growth in the economy. Together, we look at some of the real challenges and look ahead to the emerging landscape.  Is compromise still the name of the game or can we find a common ground for cloud customers and providers? Are we prepared for changing or even volatile market forces in a still evolving landscape?

Topics for discussion

  • What are the real challenges they face in adopting the cloud? Do they always outweigh the benefits?
  • What practical tips should every prospective customer know about?
  • Does customer understanding and satisfaction really matter?
  • Are there any major differences between small and big providers when it comes to negotiating standard contracts for off-the-shelf services?
  • What best practices on service level agreements should be applied across the industry?
  • What role can policy and regulation play?

A European Trusted Cloud ecosystem - EIT Digital Workshop

This workshop will determine the next generation European Trusted Cloud ecosystem in order to find ways to create European solutions for European companies and how to comply with the European Privacy legislation (GDPR). The goal of the workshop is to extend the partnerships (direct opportunity for all participants), find new practical partnerships to establish practical solutions on top of existing services and also find the gaps in offering and opportunities to create new trusted services for the portfolio. We will also explore the possibility to create a European label for trust providers in the cloud. The workshop is interactive session where comments and proposals as well as matchmaking between vendors is possible and desired.

Free discussion and matchmaking around European Trusted Cloud offering, 30 minutes.
